Folksong Stories

by John Feierabend

Recommended by Rachel Steele, School Music Specialist

We often get requests from elementary teachers who need materials that help them promote reading and literacy in their lessons.  John Feierabend, a leading specialist in early childhood music education, is also an ardent advocate of preserving America’s folk heritage.  He has created 10 beautifully illustrated children’s books based on well-known song stories and folk songs.  GIA, the publisher of these books, has made recordings of all the songs available as free downloads on their website.  If your current budget is tight, consider recommending these to your school librarian, classroom teachers, or parent teacher association, who can make them available to both you and your students!
