Several key members of the Stanton’s staff flew to Chicago this week to attend the Mid-West band clinic. The new JEN (Jazz Education Network) organization was in Chicago meeting with jazz arrangers, artists, publishers, dealers and board members to discuss the new beginings of the organiztion. Many of the country’s sheet music publishers & suppliers are in attendance also, which gave Stanton’s a chance to talk the issues of today affecting the music publishing & retail business. Meetings with FJH, Alfred, Barnhouse, Lorenz, Hal Leonard, Carl Fischer, Kendor, and many other publisher’s, yeilded new ideas that can be taken into the future of the business. Another great aspect of attending Mid-west is the chance of meeting with composers and arrangers. Ed Huckeby, Robert W. Smith, James Swearingen, Paul Lavender, Mike Story, Sean O’Loughlin, Larry Clark, Jeff Jarvis, Samuel Hazo, Brian Balmages, Timothy Loest, Robert Sheldon, John O’Reilly, Eric Osterling, Andrew Glover, are just the few that we were able to have a chance to say “hello” to. Next year’s convention will be moved to the McCormick Center in Chicago and will leave the historical downtown Hilton’s facility in order to grow it’s event into the future. Thank you for the opportunity to be involved in such an important event.
