All-Star Big Band to play at OMEA

Those people “in the know” realize that for the last number of years one of the ongoing premier jazz events at the OMEA (Ohio Music Educators Association) Conference has been the Stanton’s New Jazz Ensemble Music Reading Session. Not only does this highlight the best in new music but showcases outstanding Ohio jazz musicians and educators. This year’s band includes alumni from the Stan Kenton Band, Woody Herman Band, Blue Wisp Band, Columbus Jazz Orchestra, Ray Charles Band, Maynard Ferguson Band, Buddy Rich Band and the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra.

The band this year is:

Saxes  - Rick Van Matre, Matt James, Hal Melia, Joe Gaudio, Bill Burns

Trumpets – John Harner, Greg Wing, Jeff Folkens, Kim Pensyl

Trombones – Linda Landis, Sarah Morrow, Ernie Bastien, Scott Garlock

Rhythm Section – Jim Smith (guitar), Phil DeGreg (piano), Chris Berg (bass), Jim Rupp (drums)

Also under the auspices of the Jazz Education Connection of Ohio and led by Stanton’s very own Ben Huntoon, the session will be in the Cincinnati Hyatt Atrium on Thursday, January 28 from 9:30PM-11:30PM.

Be there or be L7!
