Neither Snow, Nor Rain, Nor Sleet…
All around the country the past few weeks, we’ve been getting dumped on by Old Man Winter! It seems like every customer we speak with has a story about the “extreme weather” their state has experienced. Looking at the forecast for the future, it seems that there’s no end in sight.
We want to assure you that Stanton’s Sheet Music will be up and running to serve your music needs, regardless of how the storms may rage! Unless Franklin County is under a level 3 snow emergency, we will be here to take, process, and ship your orders.
Take advantage of that “snow day” by pouring a hot beverage and snuggling up in front of the fireplace with your laptop to place a Stanton’s order online. Call us to place your order and we can swap tales about scraping ice and shoveling snow. For the very brave: bundle up and face the elements to come browse in the store—we can assure you a lot of personal attention from our staff!
It doesn’t show signs of stopping,
But that shouldn’t stop you from shopping,
Stanton’s says “On With the Show!”
New From Eric Whitacre
The newest choral composition by Eric Whitacre, The Seal Lullaby, is now in-stock and available from Stanton’s Sheet Music.
This accessible piece is based on the following text by Rudyard Kipling:
Oh! Hush thee, my baby, the night is behind us,
And black are the waters that sparkled so green.
The moon, o’er the combers, looks downward to find us,
At rest in the hollows that rustle between.
Where billow meets billow, then soft be thy pillow,
Oh weary wee flipperling, curl at thy ease!
The storm shall not wake thee, nor shark overtake thee,
Asleep in the arms of the slow swinging seas!
For more information or to place an order, email us or call 1-800-42-MUSIC and ask to speak to a choral department representative.
Attention Handbell Directors!
We’ve yet to mention it on this blog, but did you know that Stanton’s carries music for handbell from a variety of publishers? In reading through the many new publications for spring, our handbell staff recommends O Worship the King, a Kevin McChesney arrangement for 3-5 octaves from Beckenhorst Press.
We are working to keep all the titles in stock for the AGEHR Area V Spring Ring and locally, the Columbus Handbell Festival on May 3rd, 2009. For more information about handbell publications, email us or call 1-800-42-MUSIC and ask to speak to a handbell representative.
Sheet Music on a Budget

Currently there are 16 different collections to pick from.

Stanton’s OMEA Convention Re-cap
Stanton’s Sheet Music would like to thank all of our friends & customers who stopped by our booth at the OMEA convention this past week. Our booth was extremely busy throughout the three day conference, and we felt very fortunate to be part of such a great event. Unfortunately, we were unable to fly our Stanton’s balloon over the booth this year due to the strict regulations of the Columbus Convention Center–several of our customers asked about it. We would also like to thank Michael and Jill Gallina for allowing Stanton’s to be part of their reading sessions. The sessions were absolutely packed, and unfortunately, we ran out of clinic packets each of the four sessions that they had. We would also like to say thanks to David Adamson and Terry Walburn for their part in
helping the exhibtors throughout the weekend. The Thursday night jazz reading session in the middle of the Hyatt atrium was absolutely fantastic! At least 800 people showed up in the bar lobby to enjoy cocktails and to hear one of the best jazz ensembles put together. Stanton’s Ben Huntoon was in charge of organizing some of the top name jazz players in the state, and these guys put some muscle behind the music to make the charts sound incredible. Every one of the Stanton’s employees came back to work today with enthusastic stories to tell about who they meet, who they talked to and how much fun it was to work the convention floor this weekend. We’ll see you in Cincinnati next year!
Disney’s “High School Musical 3″ for Choirs
If your singers have been begging for music from this popular Disney series, now you can surprise them with one of these chorals:
High School Musical This title piece from the movie was a fun finale to the series that would also make a good closer for your program.
High School Musical 3 (Choral Medley) This arrangement includes all the big hits from the movie: Can I Have This Dance, High School Musical, I Want It All, A Night To Remember, Now Or Never, Right Here Right Now, and We’re All In This Together (Graduation Version.)
Both of these pieces are available in SATB, SAB and 2-Part. Also planned from Hal Leonard are individual arrangements of “Just Wanna Be with You,” and “Right Here, Right Now.” Email or call a Stanton’s representative for further details of all products in print from High School Musical 1, 2 and 3!
Stanton’s Welcomes A New Neighbor
Stanton’s Sheet Music would like to welcome to the neighborhood the new Columbus Public Vocational School. The new High School is right next door to Stanton’s, on the south side of Mound St. Construction started a little over a year ago and the new school opened its doors January 5th, 2009. Columbus Public Schools is consolidating its business and technology vocational programs under this single state-of-the-art center to give students more and better opportunities to develop necessary skills while gaining real-world experience in the downtown business arena.
The school admits approximately 800 Juniors and Seniors studying courses in Cosmetology, Graphic Arts-Printing, IT Networking & Communications, IT Software Development, IT Systems Technology, and Legal Office Technology. At least 10% of the students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society with ‘A’ averages in their programs and at least 94% attendance for the school year. The School is still somewhat under construction, but has opened it’s doors to enrolling students this January. Welcome to the Neighborhood!

Best of the Best Concert Band 2008-09
Now that the holiday break is over, it’s time to choose music for your next concert and concert band adjudication. You’ve already chosen most of your program and your required piece for contest when you realize that you only have enough budget money left for one more piece. You think, “If I could only buy one new concert band piece, what should it be?” The band staff at Stanton’s would like to recommend the following pieces as the ‘best of the best’ for 2008-09:

Flight of the Piasa by Robert Sheldon – Grade 4
Brick Street Encounter by Richard Saucedo – Grade 3
Cloud Gate (Reflections of a City) by Timothy Loest – Grade 2.5
Mountains of Mohon by Sean O’Loughlin – Grade 1.5
Stanton’s Church Choral Reading Session
Despite inclement weather, the annual Sacred Choral Clinic went ahead as planned today. Stanton’s own Judy Henry and Jim Strouse led a morning of inspirational singing as we explored many of the best new choral publications for the Lenten/Easter season and beyond! If you missed the opportunity to attend the session, you can still register to receive the packet of music we read by emailing Stanton’s or calling 1-800-42-MUSIC and speaking to a choral department representative.
